The Fish King
Statement
A farmer went to collect some water from the river but was astonished by the size of the giant carp swimming with a school of smaller carp. There is also Mt. Fuji sitting at the top left of the composition, comparing the fish’s size to the mountain’s. Symbolically, the size of the giant carp represents our tour guide’s LOUD personality. The number of carp surrounding the giant fish is exactly nineteen, representing the students and faculty participating in the study abroad. The farmer represents the locals’ reaction to my tour guide’s “loudness.” You don’t need to worry, though; he’s not mad. He’s just very loud. You’ll know when he is.
